Sugarspun Industries is a smart, dedicated digital design firm based in Flatiron, New York City.
Paul Leibowitz & Allister Klingensmith founded Sugarspun in 2007 to answer a simple need: on-target digital media.
Simplicity. Elegance. Discourse. Utility. These ideals are foremost in our process and that keeps us on an even keel. That even keel means we're not blinded by the newest technologies but we're also not blind to them.
We don't shy away from the research footwork, airtight pre-project planning, getting to know what makes our clients tick and in-the-trenches analysis before the cursor even hits the page.
We make sure you get the functionality you want without the cruft or useless eyecandy.
Simplicity. Elegance. Discourse. Utility.
Our methodology applies to a wide range of new media techniques including:
We set out to develop a convenient and user-friendly means for prospective members to enroll online and we delivered exactly that.
The simplicity of the process and elegance of the design is something I hope we can replicate in many other parts of our business in the future.– Matt D.,

TSI
500,000 members, 160+ clubs, 4 major cities (and Switzerland), the 4th largest fitness center owner in the US and a need to deploy a highly-scalable, efficient, easy-to-use online membership application.
In early December 2008, Town Sports International (better known under the brands New York Sports Clubs, Boston Sports Clubs, Washington Sports Clubs and Philadelphia Sports Clubs) launched this application.
With the goals of increasing membership revenue, providing more complete online services and continuing Town Sports market superiority in mind, the duo of Sugarspun Industries architected, designed, developed and launched this killer app. The first wave of statistics are showing fantastic results.

First Eagle Funds
Offered by international investment manager, Arnhold & Bleichroeder, the $45 billion strong First Eagle Funds focuses on long-term risk management.
The site features a custom CMS solution for publishing and archiving daily and quarterly updates to both internal and public facing sites. The CMS solution allows authors and stakeholders to edit and modify site structure as well as track usage, manage site users and site downloads. Automated information gathering and parsing is also handled by the site, both providing and consuming information from multiple data streams. We have also created a private intranet, email templating system and full range of print collateral.
The newly-launched site is the first phase in a brand re-fresh that includes new logo and will continue through Fall 2008.
What a great job you do, web, branding and print!– Heather M.,
The Royce Funds
Interactive site for a well-respected mutual fund company with a thirty-year history. Site offers shareholders, financial advisors and institutional investors the opportunity to purchase shares with state-of-the-art investment tools and access to a vast and intricate database. Sugarspun created an interface for a custom CMS, which allows for updates to daily fund performance, track usage, offer fund literature and easy updates by internal personnel.
Site and eCommunications templates which allow for customization by Royce staff are part of an overall brand refresh which included logo re-design, promotional materials, and shareholder reports.
The crew at Sugarspun Industries was able to translate my ideas directly into a customized website that looks and works even better than I had imagined.– Gordon Platt,
President,
Gotham Media Ventures
Gotham produces content on some of the most discussed, relevant and decisive issues facing us. From financial controls diligence and digital rights to homeland security and advertising methodology, Gotham gathers leading thinkers (as well as the movers & shakers) from each respective environment to discuss the topics at hand.
Initially email registration sufficed, but as a leading producer Gotham needed a more robust solution. We designed, developed and launched a custom commerce application to streamline the monetization process.
In addition to the commerce application we provided Gotham with a clean, concise, memorable identity and brand solutions guide.
Conversions rates are climbing and conference registrations are up.

Gambit Technology
As a recruiting firm, Gambit Technologies has the job of matching technically-savvy job seekers with top tier technology companies.
Technically-savvy, while a great boon for Gambit, can sometimes mean impatient users – not in a derogatory sense, but rather wanting "the right information, right now."
We can identify.
To keep the users engaged, we matched a clean yet utilitarian design with a custom content management system — allowing Gambit to update their listing on their own timeline, in their own way.
Two copies of Entourage, shared Google calendars and a serious case of Blackberry-thumb does not a discussion make.

Allister has been involved with technology in various roles for the past 15 years - from technical support to lab administrator to sales to consultant - starting with a fascination with a SPARCstation. As this fascination grew he found himself continually involved in the quickly evolving technology arena, both professionally and for personal enjoyment. Work experience with the New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred University, Apple Computer Centre (Sydney), CCIC Business Incubator, inkypixels studio and Leibowitz Communications have all provided unique perspectives and lessons on the digital design world.
2007 found Allister back in New York City ready for new challenges, and Sugarspun Industries was born.
Allister is coveting Curta calculators.
Paul's fascination with digital design began when he won a nationwide contest to be a graphics intern at WNET/ Channel Thirteen. He fell in love with the Quantel Paint Box and upon graduation from Syracuse University, accepted a full-time position at the network. 1991, after a stint at a corporate branding company and at Family Media, a magazine group whose titles included Savvy, Model and Taxi, he opened Leibowitz Communications. Leibowitz Communications is known throughout the financial services arena (TIAA-CREF, The Royce Funds, Lord Abbett, NICSA, Tweedy Brown and First Eagle) and media world (Time Warner Cable, The New York Times and Rodale Press) for creative design solutions, technical prowess and efficient, personal service.
In 2007, Paul and Allister teamed up to form Sugarspun Industries, a pure digital design company with expertise in website design, email marketing, teaser sites, screen savers and micro-sites.
Paul is the worst singer on the planet, so bad in fact, he won't even sing happy birthday to his kids.
